To finnish the model Furgul needs teeth and eyes. The eyes are spheres with a simple blinn shader texture but the teeth took a little longer to model.
Teeth:
I stared with a simple plane and modelled the teeth and gum shapes out of that. then these were duplicated, moved and shaped to create the back of the teeth. These were then knitted together to create the top jaw. The bottom jaw was a simple duplication and modified a little using a deform lattice tool. I built a tongue and attached that to the bottom jaw.
For the UVs I used automatic mapping. I didn't feel the need to paint these textures by hand as the teeth with not be seen much and will require very simple textures in any case. The teeth I textured straight in mud box using simple tools and colours.
Eyes:
These were simpler to create. I used the eyes using planar mapping so that I could paint the eyes in photoshop. I could have done them by hand but I have to work within time constraints and it took me no more than an hour to produce this image. I added a shin to the eyes in the texture it self so that regardless of how the eyes are light they still look alive and alight.
Basic Render:
These are all the elements and textures brought together in maya in a simple render. Furgul is only using a lamber with no specular but you can see how the textures look and I am very happy with them. I have painted shadows onto him, around the eyes, knees and ears so with static lighting the textures should look even better.
