Week 5: Character Sheets

I carried on trying to get the right shape for the couple. It didn't come easily. The shapes were too long and empty of character.

I stumbled across a stop motion animation called Mary and Max. The old men characters are exactly what I was looking for. They are round, with sagging breasts and old, large, miss shapen features but are physically full and look good in 3D. These characters inspired me greatly and I then went strait to cheating character sheets for Urgul and Furgul. I found these character sheets much easier to produce than the ones for the deer last term. I understand these characters a lot more and they can hold far more expressions, posses and emotions than a deer.

Furgul: Character Sheet

Urgul: Character Sheet.

Married Life:

Before I move onto the next stage of development, which will be modelling one of these two, I wanted to make sure that they worked well as a couple together. They belong to the same world and species so visually they need to look well together. They also need to work well as characters.

This is a rough draft of the two characters interacting with each other. Urgul grabbing Furguls beard to give it a good brush, without his permission naturally.

Married Life: in water colour

I love the way water colour as a will of its own and therefore adds a little something extra to the character. The spots and discolour on the ears happened unintentional but adds the sense of age to the characters . I want to carry the water colours forward to the texturing, using hand painting 2D textures as a base for the texture.

I am very happy with these two characters and I feel that they will sit nicely in the environment I'm creating for them. I only have time to model and texture one of these two charters and I have decided to do Furgul as he was the first to full concerted.
