The Kitchen:
This week I focused on concreting my idea and starting sketches. The previous two weeks of research really helped enrich my idea before it even got onto paper and the visit to Dennis Severs house gave a good indication of how the environment should feel. This is really important to me in my development process as the designs may change and vary but if the work carries the feeling I want to create then I know I'm heading in the right direction.
The kitchen area is for my female character. This is her domain and the centre feature is the cooking place with a large pot over the fire. As I drew I decided that the walls have been carved into the wood. what might have been a small hollow in the tree trunk has been carved and shaped into the living quarters. The table is simply a stump in the middle of the room which carved out of the floor. The same can be said with the stairs and the chimney stack.
The Workshop:
The second part of the room is the husbands work place. There the desk is the deter piece with the only windows in the room lighting where he works. Like the table and stairs the desk, draws and shelves have been carved into the wood making it all one continues pice of wood. The desk is covered with his tools, sketches and books while still being surrounded by acorns and having some of his shelves full of jam jars and not books.
Floor Plan:
This last concept piece was really to help understand the floor layout of the room. it's tall, circular, with the fire place and the window directly opposite each other. This shows the entrée room and how full it is. I feel that the odd objects and how densely packed an environment is can give a real sense of character. I want the environment to be a reflection of the characters, a home as a posed to a house, again give it that lived in feeling. This may be a problem when modelling but I can delicate many of the assets and simply resize them
I first completed a quick outline sketch to help with my perspective. This is still my weakest point when it comes to concept art but by drawing over a picture with the perspective I wanted in photoshop I was able to achieve the perspective that way.
