My primary source of inspiration is my parents country cottage. It's 400 years old, with not a straight wall in sight. We've had it for about 5 years and it is small so it is full of household things hidden in nooks and crannies as well as small nicknacks which collect and make themselves at home on our shelves without anyone really noticing. The kitchen is really key as my environment is going to be a kitchen area, so the way kitchen items are kept is very important.
There are loads of shelves with hooks on some so that cups can be hung off them given more storage space. pots and pans are staked on top of each other and we have some hanging from a series of lowered beams.
The Cottage:
Asset Design:
From these images I can start to get an idea of how to arrange assets in my scene and what would likely be found in it. These studies will really help me understand and plan the modelling process as I am beginning to get an idea of what shapes I will need to model. I'm hoping to use the revolve tool to create many of the assists such as pots and cups to speed production.
Dennis Severs House:
Another big source of inspiration came from Dennis Severs house, especially the kitchen. Unfortunately I couldn't take pictures of my own so these below are from the internet but these helped to remember the experience. The kitchen and a fire and candles filling the room with a fragrant smoke mixing with the smells of bread and herbs. There was no space to move. every surface was covered with something, simpler to the shelves at the cottage but far more attractively places and light.
This kitchen doesn't have any modern appliances which is the same as my proposed idea. My characters will be living in a tree or a tree stump with the same home comforts offered to them as the early Victorian period.
